Ride 2 SurviveJune 21 2008On June 21, BC Ambulance paramedics provided medical support to over 60 cyclists for the Ride 2 Survive bicycle race: a fundraising event that raised over $190,000 for cancer research. The riders departed Kelowna, BC at 0400hrs to ride close to 400km, over 15 hours to arrive in Delta, BC at 2200hrs. BCAS Paramedics, Colin Dean U/C (Kelowna), Ron Fong (Kelowna), Devon Pinchak (Abbotsford) and Brian Thornburn (Surrey) volunteered their time and skills. Dean and Fong provided escort from Kelowna until Merritt, and Pinchak and Thornburn provided escort from Merritt until Delta. The event went very well, with good weather and few injuries. This was the first year BCAS was involved in the ride and the organizers and riders were very appreciative of the service BCAS paramedics provided. Photos of the ride can be found here (Flickr) and a search for "ambulance" which will yield lots of great pictures of BCAS helping out.
