Medical and Health Care Benefits: Diabetes
Medical Care and Eye Examinations
If you are an eligible beneficiary enrolled with the Medical Services Plan (MSP), the majority of the medical care you require for your diabetes is covered. Supplementary health care services including massage therapy, physical therapy, naturopathy, chiropractic and non-surgical podiatry are no longer covered by MSP unless you are a low-income beneficiary and qualify for premium assistance.
MSP covers eye examinations by an ophthalmologist or optometrist related to diabetes care (e.g. retinopathy).
See MSP - Medical and Health Care Benefits.
Insulin, Needles, Syringes and Blood Glucose Test Strips
If you are eligible for PharmaCare coverage (see below), you may be reimbursed for insulin, needles and syringes used for your diabetes care. PharmaCare also covers blood glucose monitoring strips if you have a valid Certificate of Training from an approved Diabetes Education Centre (DEC). Contact your local Health Authority to find the DEC nearest you.
See the PharmaCare web site for more information.
Note: There may be an annual deductible amount before supplies and medications are covered by your PharmaCare Plan. See PharmaCare Plans.
