eHealth

“Electronic health records are one of the keys to modernizing the health care system and improving access and outcomes of Canadians.”

[Romanow commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada, Nov. 2002]

eHealth

The provincial government’s eHealth initiative is aimed at bringing better, faster, safer health care to British Columbians wherever they happen to be.

Projects are being developed in all health authorities, and by the Ministry.

More than two dozen eHealth projects will be underway during this fiscal year, with some already in the implementation stage.  While a fully mature eHealth system throughout the province is a ten-year undertaking, most of the components of the system will be in use in some parts of British Columbia by 2007/08.

Government is providing leadership through the eHealth Steering Committee, which brings together senior executives from the health Ministry, the health authorities and the health practitioner groups.  The committee leads and coordinates eHealth activity, to make sure it moves quickly toward provincial and national goals.

Health Canada and Canada Health Infoway are heavily involved in setting national priorities and funding key initiatives at the provincial level.
