eHealth

Defining eHealth

eHealth is an overarching term used to describe electronic health services and information delivered or enhanced through the Internet and related technologies.

eHealth encompasses a whole range of purposes from purely administrative through to health care delivery.

Health information needs to be centred on and organized around people and individual patients, rather than the places where the services are delivered (hospitals, clinics, individual medical practices, etc.).

eHealth will support and enable a more effective, integrated and coordinated approach to communication and information transfer across the various components within the continuum of health care.

Picture a child in Williams Lake who has severe kidney problems and needs to travel to the lower mainland six times each year for treatment.

What if she could receive treatment in her own community?

For that child, telehealth will have an impact on how she receives health care, and could lessen the disruption in her and her family's life.

Telehealth will allow the child to go to school and reduce missed work time and travel expenses for her parents.
