TOOLS TO ASSIST
WITH THE NEW VACCINE CODES
As you know, MSP has changed the billing code system for childhood immunization programs from newborns to children up to 18 years of age (inclusive). This was undertaken to recognize the important contribution physicians make to childhood immunization and to efficiently enhance the accurate and timely reporting of immunizations administered by physicians in B.C.
The new MSP fee is $3.00 per injection and MSP will pay for up to four injections per visit. New MSP codes are also vaccine specific to enable the collection of accurate immunization data. It is therefore essential that vaccine codes are entered into the MSP billing system accurately; and physicians are expected to continue reporting immunizations as per the established Health Authority process. Related to this, an eHealth project is currently underway to develop a Provincial Immunization Repository. It is anticipated that immunization data will eventually be transferred to this repository to provide more accurate data on immunizations and coverage rates in B.C.
Tools to assist you and your staff with monitoring, tracking and entering the new codes have been developed.
